If yall havent heard, there is a law on the books in Alabama that states a student cannot give a teacher a gift that is a ham, a giftcard, or anything of significant value and if they do then the teacher can get up to a year in jail and a $6,000 fine for the teacher who accepts the gift. All because of an “ethics law”. Yet they can get a coffee mug, homemade things or a fruit basket and it will be fine.
Um hello? Those teachers work their butt’s off for these kids and this is the way they are going to be treated. These teachers are there at the school from early in the mornings until sometimes late in the evenings, and even work from home and after school hours. These teachers have to put up with your child all day long, every day, all day. These teachers spend their money alot of times to buy school supplies, papertowels, hand sanitizer, paper, notebooks, pencils, etc. for the students because they don’t get enough support from the school system to be able to have those classroom supplies. The teachers do not get paid enough as it is and this is the way Alabama is going to treat them?
It is absolutely wrong to put a price on a gift just because you think it is favoratism to students? Christmas is NOT about how much money you spend on gifts or what gifts you give. Christmas is about Jesus and spending time with family and friends. I seriously cannot believe how much this world is so into material things of how much something costs.
It is ok however, that if you collect money from each child to buy the teacher 1 gift then that is fine. I do agree that is a good idea but if that child finds something that they think their teacher would love and does collect or just wants to be nice to the teacher because maybe they are a good friend or whatever then it should be between the teacher and the child and none of any one else’s business.
I think the punishment is way to harsh just because of a gift. What are your thoughts on this matter. Just scroll down and leave a comment below.
